Finding Discount Used Cars

Discount Used Cars Video

In the modern Internet enabled world finding cheap used cars is easier than it's ever been.  Car prices can be compared, features examined, even purchases made on sites like eBay motors and independent car sites.  Avoid the sucker bets by keeping a few things in mind.

Not everything on the Internet is true.  People trust newspapers too much, and the same goes for the web.  Just because something is written in a newspaper or mentioned on the radio doesn't mean it's 100% true.  The Internet isn't an exception.  People can write anything, promise anything, and with some of the tools available they can even create convincing photos and video out of thin air.  The same predators that run shady used car lots can get onto the InternetShady car dealers use the Internet too.  The snake oil smiles and slicked back hair can't be seen during a remote negotiation.  Photoshop lets people air brush out defects like bad paint.  And all too often people purchase used cars online, as is, without taking any of the usual used car buying precautions.  It doesn't mean everyone is lying or that every deal is a bad one, but don't go in with closed eyes.

Always have a used car inspected by a good mechanic.  Take it to a garage.  Get a mechanic to take a look for you if you won't see the car before the deal is complete.  Many mechanics offer a remote inspection service.  Don't let the seller tell you where to have it checked.  An independent opinion is best.  For under $50 you can avoid problems that could cost thousands, including the money spent on the used car purchase price.

Don't haggle monthly payments, negotiate price.  Even if the salesman keeps telling you about low monthly payments, ask for the price.  Avoid the dealer's financing because it's often a way to jack up the price.  Go in with your own financing or better yet save up to pay cash for the used car.  Remember to demand a discount for a cash payment.

Cheap used cars are a reality.  There is a lot of help for buyers.  Keep your head to avoid bad deals.
