What Is A Hybrid Car?

Check out Hybrid Car Review for more advice about hybrid engines and an updated version of hybrid electric car.

By hybrid car we refer to any vehicle that relies on two separate power sources for propulsion. Among the power sources for a hybrid car there are gasoline or diesel fuel, on-board or out-board rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS), hydrogen, wind, compressed or liquid natural gas, solar, coal, wood or other solid combustibles, etc. The term hybrid car or vehicle is used most frequently to refer to hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) in which an internal combustion engine is combined with one or more electric motors.

As mentioned above, there are other hybrid vehicles beside the hybrid car we will mainly deal with here. Just think of mopeds and electric bicycles. These are the rather basic forms of hybrid vehicles. The combination between a gas engine or a battery and the physical power of the muscles is definitely superior. Then there are hybrid heavy vehicles like railway locomotives, buses, heavy goods vehicles, ships or mobile hydraulic machinery. Normally, the term hybrid car-vehicle is used to refer to hybrid electric vehicles. This range includes the following types of automotives: AHS2 (Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Silverado, Cadillac Escalade, Saturn Vue), Toyota Prius, Ford Escape Hybrid, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight and many others. A gas-electric hybrid car usually gets its power from an internal combustion engine (gasoline or diesel engine) and an electric battery.

The origins of the hybrid car are to be found in the early 1900s when David Arthurs created the first hybrid ever. Other than the combination of gas engine and electric motor, there are other propulsion sources used, but for a single engine only. Though there is a certain similarity to a hybrid car, distinctions do exist. Actually the latter should be more appropriately called dual mode vehicles (electric trolleybuses, dual mode buses, flexible-fuel vehicles, etc).

There are lots of advantages to buying a hybrid car, and the green considerations are not the only ones. First, there is the aspect of fuel economy, and secondly, the benefit for the environment and, implicitly, for humankind is undeniable in the fight to reduce pollution. There is a triple combination of factors that make the design of a hybrid car so appropriate for our times: first there is the combination gas-electricity, secondly, the battery comes with a high storage capacity, and thirdly, the kinetic energy wasted by braking is recuperated and reused.

Conserve Energy with an Electric Hybrid Car

The electric hybrid car depends on the use of a combined propulsion system that consists of the assisted-function of the traditional engine and an electric battery motor. Similar to the goal of many motors scooters, the purpose of such a vehicle is to be economical in terms of fuel consumption. The energy storage of the electric hybrid car is superior because more energy can be generated and stored either relying on an electrical generator or using the regenerative braking device. The energy thus saved gets stored in the battery or is used by the electric motor when in motion. The motor of such a car is much smaller than that of a regular fuel vehicle and thus, the car efficiency level is higher.

Many users have started recommending the electric hybrid car along with its manufacturers as it is most efficient especially urban use when there are lots of stops and gos. The fuel consumption is very much reduced if we were to compare this car with a regular model and this is due to three important systems that are activated. The first is that which reduces wasted energy during low output and this is achieved if you turn the internal combustion engine off. A second process captures the breaking kinetic force and sends it to the battery. The third aspect that makes the electric hybrid car more fuel efficient is that it uses a smaller internal combustion engine while increasing power from the electric motor in compensation.

Another advantage of the electric hybrid car models is noise reduction. The battery-powered motor is more silent than the internal combustion one which works great for both us and the environment. However some people do not like this aspect concerning noise reduction believing that it is responsible for more accidents especially among the visually impaired who rely on noise in order to cross a street.

Finally, the electric hybrid car models help in reducing gas emissions that ruin our cities' atmosphere. The less pollution, the fewer the cases of lung disease. We all talk about protecting our environment nowadays but little seems to be done in the car industry. The electric hybrid car should be making the rules of our industry and should in time be outrun by superior technologies that eliminate the use of fuel and the release of toxic fumes into our atmosphere. We should begin considering the electric hybrid car as the more recent forefather of what the near future holds in store for us.

On the downside, of course, is the cost. Not just the cost of purchase, but also the cost of production. For those looking to be environmentally friendly while decreasing costs, the absolute lowest-cost solution is to choose from a selection of cheap scooters.

What Exactly Is A Hybrid Engine?

Check out Hybrid Car Review for more tips about hybrid electric car and an updated version about hybrid engines.

How well known is a hybrid engine? What are the functioning principles of a hybrid engine? The hybrid engine is typically described as an engine with two complementary sources of energy: thus, on the one hand there is the gas part and on the other, there is an electrical battery that supports the gas system. Through this hybridization, the outcome is less pollution due to the electric component and the high power output of the gas engine. What can be said about the variety of hybrid engine models is that there are as many of them as there are hybrid cars. Taken individually a hybrid engine is created as to enable the gas engine and the electric motor to connect to the drive train so as to power the vehicle and make it move.

How does the hybrid engine work? The technical features on which any hybrid engine relies is quite simple. The hybrid engine works as follows: there is a combined effort of the gas engine and the brakes with the aim to recharge the battery of the electric motor; thus there is no more need to plug in overnight, as it would be the case with an electric only motor. When the brakes are pressed, some of the energy otherwise used to stop the car, is collected by the regenerative brakes in the electric motor.

In the case of a basic full hybrid engine, the electric component will be in use while the vehicle is riding, when it stops or when you accelerate it slowly. When additional horsepower is necessary, it is the gas engine’s turn to interfere to give the expected acceleration. In the case of the hybrid engine,we will obtain higher mpg than in the gas-only vehicles by letting the electric motor to take over.

The fact that most of the energy is stored, and to a certain extent saved when the vehicle is stopped or slowed down, makes hybrid vehicles better and more efficient in city driving. Unlike what happens due to hybrid engine vehicles, for the gas-only engine cars, driving is rather fuel efficient when going at higher speeds, on the highway. The hybrid engine vehicles not only eliminate the need to plug in, but they have also extended the range of technical possibilities. One gets to care for the environment while still enjoying all the horsepower of a great car. We could truly say that the making of the hybrid engine represents the first step towards going totally green.

Cheap Old Cars for Sale – Government Seized Car Auctions

If you are in a tight budget you might want to consider buying cheap old cars for sale, either online or from used car dealers. There are also many old cars being sold through auction, which is one of the best ways in getting cars at a greatly reduced price.

Most online car auctions will feature both old and later models, and you expect that most bidders will aggressively contest for the later models driving the price high.

The good news however, most old cars will be sold at a very cheap price to speed up their disposal.

What you must need to remember though is to make sure that parts are still available in the market for replacement and maintenance purposes. This is to ensure that you will be able to enjoy your car and improve its appearance as well as its performance, especially if you know something about mechanics.

Take the time to inspect in detail all the aspect of the car that you are interested in, and never do it in a hurry. Test drive to get a feel of the car performs, and if you´re not keen in car engines and all its jargon, it would be best to bring along someone who has some knowledge to help you in your inspection.

You can buy cheap old cars either directly from owners, car dealers or auction houses. The choice is yours, although the pertinent details remain the same. Make sure that registration papers are complete as well as safety standards and other documents included in the purchasing of vehicles.

Government seized car auctions is one good way to buy used cheap cars. Not many people know you can buy cars from the government and this helps to keep the bidding price low. Since the cars need money to be maintained and stored, the government agencies are more than willing to sell these seized cars at cheap prices.

You can often find used seized cars that are still brand new, less than a year old being sold for more than 90% off the retail market value.

If you are looking to buy cheap seized cars from government auto auctions, check out gov auctions. Check out my Gov Auctions review and learn how to buy seized cars at 90% off retail prices.

Selling Your Car [Dent Free] To Get A Higher Price

paintless dent repair

Trying to sell a car and you notice that you have a whole bunch of those little dents and dings on your vehicle? Dents from other cars hitting your doors at the parking lots, or tiny rocks hitting your vehicle as you're driving? It doesn't matter how you got them, but what does matter is what it makes your car look like as you're trying to sell it.

You should use this great service called paintless dent removal or paintless dent repair. It's really awesome. It doesn't cost nearly as much as taking your vehicle into the repair shop, and the time in which the dents and dings are done is tremendously faster, like 10 to 20 minutes per ding or dent if you have an experienced PDR technician. If not, it may take a little longer, but it really doesn't too much time.

There are special ways that these PDR specialists get at the dents and dings from the inside of the car, and then how they do it is basically massage the dent or ding out of the car. It's a truly ingenious process, and if you know how to do it, you will make a lot of money helping car owners sell their vehicles by making them appear almost brand new and without dents.

So if you want to sell your car and you want to get the most money out of the sale, you should look into paintless dent removal services and check out if they can help your car look as good as new. You will be sure to get more money from a vehicle that has no dents and dings than one that is covered by them. A car that is looks sharp and has no dings will raise a better price than a car that only has a few dents.

So with this choice of paintless dent repair, you can get most probably a few hundred dollars or pounds more on your vehicle than what you had planned to get with all those dings from the cars parking too close by you in a parking lot.

Find either a repair shop that offers this nature of service, or a mobile PDR professional. Check out how many cars they have repaired and see if you can compare the prices with a regular car repair shop. You will be surprised at how much money you will save and the amount of time that you will have to leave your vehicle at the shop to have the work done, or to have the PDR done.

Like stated before, if you find a PDR professional who knows what to do, each ding or dent will only take 10 to 20 minutes. If you go to a shop and leave the vehicle in to be fixed, You'll to have to leave it over night at least. It could even take a few days if they have a lot of cars to repair before starting on yours. So do look at paintless dent repair and get more money from your vehicle!

Just that spark missing for the Lexus IS 250

Lexus is a name that is very easy on the tongue and seems that it took some long and hard effort to coin it. It sounds perfect and perhaps too perfect to the point of being unable to evoke real driver emotion.

The IS 250 range is the entry level model which hopes to compete directly against the German offerings BWM 3 series, Mercedes C class and Audi A4. Although the IS has been around since 1998 and is only in its second generation, it has done a steady job technically and does not lag behind the big three.

All in all there are three main choices for the IS range namely IS250 (153 KW) , IS 220d (130 KW) and the IS350(228 kW). Sports version IS-F which is a 311 KW V8 as well as a drop-top models IS250/350C complete the line up.

South Africa has at present only the IS range with pricing starting at R328 900.00 (manual) with the  most expensive model being R410 700.00 (SE auto). In general the IS250 is a good car and technically perfect as it was indented but for some reason the human elements seem to have been left behind.

Lets begin with the engine sizes for the car. The entry R328 900.00 price is arguably okay for a 153kw engine but how would Lexus justify paying R420 000 for exactly the same engine?

Furthermore the difference to put it in very simple terms between the models costing R330 000.00 and R420 000.00 is really just extras for comfort and convenience. These are better headlamps, Electronic Multi Vision display with dvd navigation, seat heating, park distance control, Mark Levinson digital surround audio system, memory for seats and steering configuration. Nice and cool gadgets but what if a particular individual would rather compromise DVD navigation and smart headlamps for a more powerful engine?

Besides the odd(in my opinion) pricing arrangement, the rear seats are also a little too cramped. In fact some owners of the car feel the IS range is overall noticeably smaller than its German competitors.

Now the most important talking point, the exterior design. The model looks very similar to other Japanese cars of late. This is where things get odd for the Lexus IS. If the car was launched without the L badge it would be a little difficult to identify it as a competitor to the 3 series or C-class never mind as a Lexus. The car looks too sporty and with very little hints towards elegance and seriousness.

In the end you have a technically perfect car that wins quality surveys, does not break down nor causes any controversy in its styling but just a little odd to normal people. Normally people would expect at least a power increase if paying close R100 000 more on the base model. Space inside the Lexus IS would be a concern considering that competition has this aspect covered. And finally people expect a car at this price range to look the part without needing its badge.

In its pursuit for perfection Lexus has then produced a car which is a little removed from the driver and fails to invoke genuine excitement.

Cheap Car Rental Strategies

For additional info on your car insurance options please visit: on line car insurance quotes.

If you are taking a plane or a train to your travel destination, then chances are that you will need to get a rental auto when you arrive.  The best thing you can do for renting a auto while on vacation is be prepared.  The best way for you to get a good deal is to plan a strategy.  By knowing how to rent a auto, you will get the best possible deal you can find.

Plan Ahead for your Car

The best way to get a deal on a car is to get your reservation in at least 15 days in advance.  By making your reservation early, you will have a better chance at getting the exact make and model of auto you want and get a good price at the same time.  Planning ahead is always the best way to get the most out of your money.

No Name Companies

If for some reason you are traveling unexpectedly and had little or no time to prepare for a rental car, then you may be better off going with a smaller business instead of big named company.  This is because you will have a better chance at getting a last minute booking at a better price. The bigger company may not have anything available that you want and you may have to settle for something that you did not expect.

Stay away from airport rental companies

The rental companies that are based out of or near the airport are going to be your higher priced companies.  This is because they are conveniently located right there so they figure the consumer will pay more for not having to run around town trying to find a rental car.

Shop around the web

Rental car companies are known to post coupons and discounts on there web sites for consumers to take advantage of.  This is a great opportunity for you to get a quality car at a better-discounted price.  Getting a discount on a rental auto is always good that way you can spend your money on better things for you vacation.

Always Take the Insurance

When you rent a auto, you are asked if you want to purchase the optional insurance plan with the car while you are driving it.  This is something that you should never pass up.  The insurance is there incase there is ever any damage done to the vehicle while in your care.

For example if you hit another car of some one else hits the auto and runs.  This will protect you from having to pay for the damages with your own pocket money.  The insurance is usually cheap, however many people decide not to get the insurance to try to save a buck.  You will not save anything if you have an accident and are responsible to pay for all the damages without the insurance. So, look at online car insurance quote.

Third Time Lucky For The Vauxhall Corsa

The Vauxhall Corsa has been about for what seems like an age. Some might say almost as long as Bruce Forsythe who is a British institution, rather like the good old Corsa. The problem is that unlike good old Bruce who is still at the peak of his powers the average British car buyer became bored of the old Corsa with its dated style and were instead tempted away by the sleek, sophisticated look and feel that other European.

The original Corsa which was released back in 1993 was an improvement on the boxy Nova that it replaced but the 2000 model was not much of a revelation despite good sales and the competition was hot on the heals of the Corsa by then. As a result the all-new Corsa launched in 2006 attempted to win back the buyers it had lost to the likes of Peugeot, Toyota, Renault and of course Fiat with the Grande Punto.

The answer was if you can’t beat them join them and so the third Generation Corsa was born. Based on the same platform as the Grande Punto the Corsa was an entirely different proposition to what had gone before and more akin to a baby Astra than anything else.

The car has a far higher quality feel about it .The Corsa name had gained a reputation for being dull – that was until the latest model was introduced. With sharp styling and a smart interior it's a huge improvement over its predecessor offering more space, comfort and refinement. Like its big brother, the Astra, it has two distinct profiles for three and five-door models - and both variants look good. It's enjoyable to drive too and thanks to a comfortable ride and decent noise insulation makes a surprisingly smooth motorway cruiser. There is a wide range of engines but it fall to the diesels to truly impress especially the super thrifty 1.3-litre CDTi. There's also a performance model in the shape of the 1.6T SRi which is just as exciting to bomb around in as the VXR hot hatch.

There's a good choice of engines in the Corsa range and they all offer decent economy. The entry-level model is the 1.0-litre petrol but with just 60bhp the three-cylinder unit struggles for pace and feels sluggish - the 80bhp 1.2-litre is a better bet if you intend to cover more than town miles. Theres also a 1.4-litre unit but it only has 10bhp more than the 1.2-litre and isn't much quicker - it also needs to be revved hard to achieve decent momentum and will quickly lose interest when faced with hills. For better more sporty performance there’s a.6-litre turbo-charged SRi model which was introduced in mid-2007 - it uses a less powerful version of the engine found in the VXR with 150bhp instead of 192bhp. However there is still plenty of go with a 0-60 mph time of 7.6 seconds it doesn't hang about either

It’s the diesels that come out the best though. The most powerful is the 1.7 CDTi with 125bhp and plenty of pulling power it makes it ideal for town and motorway driving and it's a surprisingly relaxed cruiser, sitting at low revs at 70mph. The pick of the engine range is the newer 1.3 CDTi available with 75bhp or 90bhp. It is far smoother and much more refined than its bigger counterpart and although it lack a bit of the mid-range power its super economical – the less highly powered version averages 63 mpg. All petrol models have a five-speed gearbox with the exception of the 1.6T which, as well as the diesel engines comes with a six speed gear box. The gearboxes do feel a little notchy and slow to shift but the change is positive enough. An Easytronic (automated manual) system is available on the 1.2-litre models, while a conventional four-speed automatic can be specified on the 1.4-litre

The Corsa may not have the French sophistication of a Renault Clio or the sporty appeal of a Mazda 2 but is a great all rounder and a superb choice if you're after a good value, small hatchback.

Honda Hybrid Vehicle Tips

Honda hybrid models became available on the market in 1990's and they were introduced in the United States in 1999. Honda Insight opened the road, quickly followed by the response of Toyota with the appearance of the Prius. Apparently Honda hybrid models are not sold as well as the Toyota ones even though in the United States Honda has taken the lead. One Honda hybrid that set a record in terms of selling in 2004 is the Civic Hybrid. The number of Honda hybrid models sold on the market since 1999 when Insight was released until 2006 surpassed that of 100,000. Most of these models have found owners in the United States, next come Japan, Europe and Canada.

In 2004 another Honda hybrid was introduced on the market and it was called Accord. This way people could enjoy the Honda hybrid models more extensively and with a greater variety. It has presented the company in North America with quite a great deal of success and worldwide it has become a favorite among hybrid models. This particular model has 255 horse power, it is a V-6 car and it lowers the fuel consume a great deal.

The Civic Honda hybrid was launched in 2002 and it had an integrated motor assist system that worked wonders in terms of lowering fuel consume. In 2006 this model was declared the Car of the Year in North America based on the advantages presented by design, safety, way of handling, satisfaction offered to drivers and value.

Getting back to the first Honda hybrid, the Insight was also fuel efficient and it stayed in the top of car sales for about six years. It has been estimated that about a tank of 10 gallons can last for somewhere between six and seven hundred miles.

Therefore, like any other hybrid model, the Honda hybrid models are also designed according to the green line. They release significantly less emissions, thus contributing to preserving a cleaner urban environment. If more hybrids entered the market, there would also be a drop in the number of people who suffer from respiratory ailments. The only issue that Honda hybrid models and other companies̢۪ designs have in common is that the batteries are highly dangerous for the environment. Therefore, it is of great importance that we respect instructions to in order to recycle these batteries properly.

Sports Car Modifying Tips

BMW Tuning

Are you planning to improve the aesthetic appearance of your car? Want to achieve that sporty and sleek look? Then here are some tips that will help you modify your car.

What accessories to choose from

When choosing what options of setup you will do to your car, you should first keep in mind that there are a many different products being sold out there which claim superior performance and economical. But the reality is there are some good ones and and many of bad ones. Be choosy when looking for car accessories and remember it is better to look for the established brands before considering untested brands.

The wheels

One of the initial things that a car enthusiast does when dressing up a car is to replace the existing factory wheels with larger ones. But this is not just for looks since performance wheels and tires also enhance a car's handling and performance. Choosing between tall wheels and short ones will be the next step. Larger wheels get noticed more and improve the appearance of a car dramatically. Smaller wheels on the other hand have that retro look.

Racing Stickers

Applying sticker art designs on the hood or the other parts of the car body is one of the cheapest ways to alter and customize your car. Sticker designs range from famous logos of performance parts manufacturers as well as those designed for rally and indy races. If you are capable of making your own stickers, it is important to get permission for copying a design as it may be copyrighted. If you are planning to put stickers on the hood, choose the kind that will not be damaged by the heat of the engine. Metallic foil stickers are ideal for car hoods.

Lowering Kits

Lowering your car means making your car more stable in turns aside from giving it an aggressive and sporty look. Cars are not the only ones that have lowering kits, so if you have a pickup truck, chances are, there is a lowering kit made for your vehicle. Although having a lower ride means improved handling, the trade off is poor ride quality since the car springs are stiffer and shorter.

These are some of the things that you can do to improve the appearance of your automobile. Your car is a represents you so naturally you want it to look appealing. Of course, having a good looking car also means spending some serious cash. If this is what you like, then paying extra will not be a problem with you.

See this modified BMW M3 as an example of sports car styling.

Ford: Never mind the hybrids we have the Econetic

It cost me £83 English pounds to fill up my old Land Rover at the petrol station today. The attendant had to almost prise my hand open to get my debit card to pay for the fuel. As I stood there in shock and close to tears thinking about what else I could buy for that amount of money and more to the point how long it would take me to earn it back it suddenly dawned on me that in the words of the Stranglers (something better change).

In my case I think I need to change my vehicle pretty damn quick before we go broke. Not just because of the Land Rover you understand but we also have a 2001 Ford Mondeo 2.0 Petrol which was hardly considered a “gas guzzler” when we bought it some three years ago but due to the retrospective tax bandings coming out next year it falls into a high polluting bracket. Blimey I feel like I’m solely responsible for the destruction of the planet and in a way I suppose I am or certainly contributing towards it.

I guess we’re in no different a position to a lot of people but by rendering our current vehicles practically worthless it will be quite hard to buy a new low polluting vehicle with effectively nothing to trade-in. The Government which is of course well know for introducing numerous “initiatives” typically in response to a crisis could have incentivised a scheme where you get a discount of a new low polluting car in exchange for scrapping the old one.

Unfortunately it is always the less well off that suffer as a result of new legislation and this is a good case in point. I remember a couple of years ago Government Ministers were smugly parading around in hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius (whilst still having the Ministerial bullet-proof Jaguar waiting around the corner to whisk them away when the cameras had stopped rolling)

When thinking of polluting cars you automatically think of large 4x4’s and such like but surprisingly the newest generation of high performance vehicles, especially the one’s emanating from the USA where they have been working to reduce emissions for a while and as usual are way ahead of us, are much less polluting than you would imagine. It pains me to sit here and defend them but I read about a 5.7 litre V8 Engine which hardly registered on the VOSA equipment! Compare that to my Diesel Land Rover which would have them all reaching for their resuscitators! That isn’t to say that the V8 wont still uses gallons of fuel, but those who buy a V8 would probably not care anyway.

It always makes me chuckle when people see someone in an expensive car and say stuff like “imagine the insurance costs”. Well guess what they don’t care ‘cos they can afford it in the first place and so will continue to drive whatever they like whereas the rest of us who could easily spend a day’s wages just filling up the tank need to have a drastic rethink .

I need to stop ranting on now and turn to what seems to be the future for the car market and the saviour for us all.

Ford has unveiled the Fiesta Econetic at the motor show in London. It comes with a 1.4 litre diesel engine that gives off a mere 98g/KM which puts it top of the league for the lowest polluting four-cylinder car on the market. Fuel economy is claimed to be over 76 miles per gallon.

Ford have stated that it is the low emission high economy Diesel engine that will deliver cheap running costs for the masses and not the petrol electric hybrids.

In a statement Mark Ovenden, Ford’s UK Marketing Director puts it “Making available for the many what’s been available for the few”, who points out that the petrol electric hybrids pioneered by Honda and Toyota remain expensive when compared with conventional petrol or diesel engines. Other car makers such as BMW, Mercedes and VW have also acknowledged diesel to be the way forward at least in the short term.

With that in mind Ford’s assembly line in Dagenham is churning out diesel engines at a rate of knots with some 575,000 units expected next year.

With technology moving so fast no-one can predict what we will all be driving in five years time but you can be sure in my case it won’t have an eighty litre fuel tank and will probably be a cheap Ford!

Reasons Why People Choose Sports Cars

BMW Automobiles

Sports cars are performance automobiles that provide driving satisfaction and pleasure. They allow a person to engage in the absolute driving experience and be in touch directly with the motorway, as diametrically as possible.

In the automobile industry where economy vehicles, “family sedans” and SUV’s dominate the field, sports cars absolutely stand out.

These types of cars, for the able and skilled drivers, can give optimum performance on the road. Not all drivers are equally skilled, but to individuals who are capable of feeling and understanding the faint messages of these vehicles, they can indulge in a rewarding and satisfying driving experience since sports cars are intended to be driven fairly fast.

Because of this driving pleasure, many people choose to buy a sports car. This is just one of the many reasons why people like these cars. Other reasons include:

1. Appearance. The aerodynamic design of a sports car makes it attractive to car fans. Although when you are making an automotive investment, this should not be the principal reason to purchase the vehicle. Functionality should be the primary consideration even though beauty and style will also enter into your decision.

2. Driving features. While other cars are mainly designed for affordability and function, sports cars gives emphasis on performance and execution. The trait and condition of driving a sports car is a pleasurble experience often unmatched.

Keeping in mind their very discriminating car drivers, sports cars easily out perform the road execution of other automobiles. Drivers can easily accelerate when required, hug turns, and have a certain driving management not provided by most vehicles.

3. Fun plus excitement. The driving qualities of a sports car can provide excitement and fun.

One can spend hours talking about pleasurable experiences such as curve hugging while not taking one’s foot off the accelerator or zooming past slow moving traffic yet remaining in full control or talk about the feeling of gratification , and knowing that one is driving a car with excellent engineering.

4. Duration and resale value. Each new vehicle depreciates in value instantly when it is driven. However, sports cars will become more valuable as time passes, because of their above-mentioned qualities and are expected to become potential classics that will retain their value.

One does not need to make their car choice a statement, although if one chooses, the opportunity is right there. Owning a sports automobile will make a statement about the owner’s personality.

BMW has always produced quality sports cars especially their motorsport editions such as the BMW M3 manual and as sports cars enthusiasts BMW owners like to modify their BMW car.

The importance of mirrors in Road Safety

Did you know that each yeah over 1.2 million people across the globe die as a result of an accident on the roads.  That equates to around 3,000 deaths per day of which 17% are minors.  In addition to these fatality figures a further fifty million sustain injuries as a result of a road accident, a third of which are seriously injured.

And it’s not just the emotional cost that is brought to bare, it has been estimated that the financial cost globally of road traffic accidents is $518 billion.  Low and medium income countries make up a disproportionate amount of the total injuries and fatalities – 85%
One way to help prevent deaths and injuries occurring is through the effect use of mirrors.  There are a number of different mirrors that can aid in road accident prevention.

Firstly there are traffic mirrors which are usually placed either on tight bends or in areas where you cannot easily see if a vehicle is emerging, for example a fast moving stretch of road. Country roads are notorious for accidents as they tend to be built much narrower than conventional roads, as well as having a greater number of twists and turns.  At night, the headlights become the safety mechanism, but during the day traffic mirrors can literally be a life safer.

Secondly there are driveway mirrors which, as the name suggests, should be installed on a driveway or any area where manoeuvring a vehicle might be difficult. They are sometimes just referred to as convex mirrors.

With a wider global usage of road safety mirrors it is likely that the number of injuries and deaths could be substantially reduced.  Perhaps this would not be affordable for lower income countries but for the developed world the cost of installing a road safety mirror would be relatively small.

What Hybrid Car Is The Best?

Check out Hybrid Car Review for more advice about electric hybrid car and an updated version about best hybrid car.

Do you know which is the best hybrid car? Who can point to a hybrid vehicle and say this is the best hybrid car? Well, if you really want compare unique car features, let me tell you this is something very difficult to do. Just think about the competition in the car industry. Each and every car maker has one important goal in their range of activity, namely to create better green vehicles, and hopefully the best hybrid car.

There are some elements to point to the “best hybrid car” candidates, particularly since the title changes owners. The efficiency to get a better consume, more horsepower, a reduced price, an improved design and great utilities remain only some of the elements to judge and appreciate a hybrid vehicle.

The concern for the fuel consume efficiency of the best hybrid car is normal given the ever increasing oil price and the pressure put on the environment by toxic emissions. First of all, the best hybrid car will have the lowest fuel consume. Hence the best hybrid car, from this perspective at least, should be running more on electric power than on gas, and even when the regular engine is in full swing, the average gas need should be lower than that of a regular car.

No matter the engine combination, the best hybrid car should be capable to lead to a gas consume rate that would justify its high initial cost. Some of the best hybrid car projects, in this line of thought, are Toyota Prius and Honda Civic, the systems of which boost fuel economy by the use of an electric motor to support the gas engine.

Statistically speaking, the size is another factor to differentiate between the aspirants to the title of “best hybrid car”. Thus, you might be interested in the best hybrid car in the small, town-use range, or maybe the mid-size hybrid sedans are more adequate for your needs. Though luxury hybrid cars are far more costly and difficult to maintain, there is a special market segment they address.

Depending on personal subjective preferences, the best hybrid car is bought after learning some technicalities from the green line of car production too. Thus, you should consider the cost of replacing certain equipment items, governmental tax credits, fuel economy, warranty, battery charging system and so on. Clarifications are necessary for other technical features, but that is the expert's call.

Fuel Efficient Lexus Hybrid

Lexus Hybrid Video

Lexus hybrid engines are the outcome of more than a decade of major scientific efforts and technical changes that finally proved rewarding. The breakthrough Lexus hybrid vehicles include the GS 450h saloon performance, the RX 400h SUV and the LS 600h saloon luxury flagship; all the three designs are a main indicators to the car owners community that reduced toxic gases, ride efficiency, powerful engine and fuel advantages are more than accessible in our century. the top design from the Lexus hybrid models is the first model of car in its class and it also sets the record as the very first rear wheel drive hybrid automobile. Such a car means little stress on the environment, but even more rewards for the driver.

The gas engine is complemented by a very sophisticated electric engine that takes care of the functioning of the car from standstill to instant motion. even if the engine be a 6.0-liter model, Lexus hybrid cars prove outstanding by the very low emission range. Besides the green advantages that electrical cars represent there are the main outcomes and goal achievements of hybrid and electrical cars in general, and Lexus hybrid designs also provide an immense level of comfort that is only specific to luxury cars such as the reclining ottoman or the Shiatsu massage system. The power button in a Lexus hybrid will only open the use of the electric power system, and though you'll be touching the acceleration, there are no gas emissions whatsoever.

The main achievement in the design of the Lexus hybrid cars is that the two power sources, electrical and fuel-based are able to function as one single system. the features are obvious in the way the electronically controlled continuously variable transmission functions allowing smooth acceleration possible without the difficulty of changing gears several times. This kind of transmission device has a crucial impact in the saving energy properties specific to Lexus hybrid cars. Furthermore, the noise level changes to very low levels, you'll be driving a quiet car that doesn't bother either the passengers or the neighbors.

How long can an electrical battery work properly? This is the main problem for anyone buying a Lexus hybrid. The manufacturer claims that the battery is meant for long life usage: it is a 288V Nickel Metal-Hydride piece that is located in the back part of the car so as to ensure a good weight distribution for the overall design of the vehicle. in a nutshell, Lexus hybrid vehicles are quieter and energy saving from acceleration to deceleration. decelerating and you press the break pedal, the engine becomes a generator. motion power that is reduced and lost is captured and turned into electrical energy that is re-sent to the battery recharging it.

Getting a Deal at an Auto Auction

Looking for a great deal on a car? Try an auto auction. Anything from older, junk fixer uppers to great newer cars even to expensive luxury models can be found. Whether it's for personal use or resale, a lot of people purchase vehicles in this manner. A little information can make an auction an even better experience.

Some of what can go wrong includes buying a bad car. Every car at an auction isn't a hidden gem. Cars sold at such auctions are generally sold according to used car laws which tend to make it an "as is" sale. The old children's show “Electric Company” taught children about this with a man considering a used car with an “as is” sign in the window. As he inspects the car he asks a lot of questions to which the salesman always responds “as is”. Finally the man agrees to buy the car, pays for it, but when he opens the door to get into the car it falls to pieces. He exclaims “I want the car as was!” Don't let that happen to you.

Reputable auto auctions give buyers ample opportunities to check out the cars before bidding or purchase. Avoid the auctions that don't. Arrive early. Inspect and take a spin in the interesting autos. Bring a mechanic to provide an expert eye. If not, then during the test drive bring the car to a mechanic for inspection. It doesn't take long to check key components like the engine and breaks. Check other elements for damage. This includes the body, upholstery, and bumpers .

Another problem is inherent in auctions. Auction prices can be terrific, but sometimes people assume a bargain where there is none. That holds true for auto auctions too. The bidding can easily escalate to well over the car's value. There are also fees to pay, so pay close attention. Be armed with Kelly Blue Book values as well as real sales examples of similar models and years. Phones with Internet access can bring this info to your fingertips while attending. Even for the car of your dreams, don't bid more than its value.

Keep in mind there are deals to be found. Don't go in blind, however. If a deal appears too good to be true, it is, even at an auto auction.

Original Toyota Hybrid Cars

Toyota hybrid cars were the first to hit the market. It took a pretty long time to pass from the gas-vehicle manufacturing to the ecological lines. The initial design from the Toyota hybrid cars was Prius and its appearance marked a turning point in the world of automakers. The design of the Toyota hybrid cars is considered superior to all the other similar models available on the market: the the properties of the internal combustion engine, the mph rate it gets within a few seconds and all the road conditions it offers are some of the best, not to mention that the viability of the design and the price are equally advantageous for car owners.

Some of the Toyota hybrid cars are also expected to bring modifications in terms of cylinder performance so that they may come to mark a total change in independent circuit racing. Not everybody is prepared to adopt vehicles in the green line, and this is the reason why the production as such is kept pretty reduced. Anyone who'd like one of the Toyota hybrid cars manufactured in series production can place an order and a deposit with the local Toyota dealers. Before striking the deal, check the technical data and even analyze them together with a pro in the field .

The bad part is that more advanced Toyota hybrid cars are worth a fortune, and they are far from the reach of the average user who cannot afford to buy up to $165,000 for a car even if it has a much lower fuel consume. The future model expected to be unveiled in January 2009 is the one to keep the consumers hopes up. New Toyota hybrid cars will be designed as a more powerful and larger vehicle with an engine growth to 1.8 liters. The range of all-electric fuel-free driving option will be extended without making Toyota models bulkier.

Although the future Toyota hybrid cars will suffer some improvements, they will still operate on the nickel metal hydride batteries without providing an independent autonomous solution. The Prius design to be launched will be available in several models from the wagon and the pickup to the compact and mid-sized SUV. The new Toyota hybrid cars owe a great deal to the first Prius models with the fuel-free mode available for anything below high speeds. Then, the joint power engine of the gas and electric motor devices will allow you to enjoy the speed of a cozy ride while saving on fuel.

The Sporty Fuel Efficient Nissan Altima Hybrid

Nissan Altima Hybrid

To many knowledgeable users, Nissan Altima hybrid design is a true accomplishment in terms of design and ecological purpose. Nissan Altima hybrid is nothing more than a mid-size Sedan, but its cost is discouraging for many potential buyers. As for the horsepower, you've got 158-horsepower to enjoy, resulting from the assisted function of a gasoline and an electrical motor. The feeding rate of the engine surely doesn't meet the best standards in the category, but it is enough for a 2.5 engine. Even so, Nissan Altima hybrid does have serious competition on the market from models like Toyota Camry hybrid or Chevrolet Malibu hybrid that are also more accessible in terms of price.

The difference is pretty small between the Toyota Camry and this Nissan Altima Hybrid, since the two designs rely basically on an identical hybrid-drive system. Nissan vehicles have always been more expensive, but their technical features and great mechanics have also compensated and justified such high rates. A good review of Nissan Altima Hybrid asserts that this is actually “the first hybrid that drives like a Nissan”, implying that there is little difference between a gas powered and a semi-electrical car. This green sedan variant should be better appreciated, before disclaiming the real features by labeling them as advertising blah-blah.

What is the big Nissan Altima hybrid advantage that other cars in the same category lack? Well, experts claim that it is the power of the electrical batteries that sets the model apart. Nissan Altima hybrid can give you a 40 mile per hour speed just by making use of its electrical engine, consider the gasoline engine and you get the success recipe of the model. There are however disadvantages and that of the bulkiness of the car is the most often brought into discussion. The nickel-metal hydride batteries bring some 300 extra pounds to the overall size and this is felt in the car behavior on the road.

The disadvantage of this weight excess comes as a necessity for lighter parts in the design such as the insulation of the interior. The interior quality level meets high standard levels with the wood accents in the cabin making traveling a comfortable nice experience. The controls layout is impeccable and the driver's position has the perfect visibility angle. The ultimate review belongs to the user who can decide whether Nissan Altima hybrid is reliable or not.

The Sporty Saturn Vue Hybrid

Saturn Vue Hybrid Video

General Motors launched their green line with the Saturn Vue Hybrid aiming to cover wider sectors of the market by setting a lower price. According to the manufacturer, the model makes the best economical hybrid car in its category. One of the specificities of this motor is the way it receives gasoline: the fuel is sent directly to the engine by means of a motor-generator that makes a great substitute to the traditional alternator. The difference between the Saturn Vue Hybrid and other full hybrids is that the vehicle can't work autonomously by using electrical power only. The dual-mode hybrid power device is planned for full launching at the end of this year, with market availability in 2009.

Another future project  that General Motors aims to accomplish on the basis of their Saturn Vue Hybrid is the plug-in hybrid, but the making of such a prototype is closely connected with the availability of the lithium-ion batteries. At present, a prototype running on this type of batteries is in the test phase, while the Saturn Vue Hybrid remains to take full advantage of its market success. Ill speakers say that the hybrid model remains a trick used by those from General Motors as a masque for the lack of environmental concern.

The belt alternator starter is the system element that influences the technical advantages of Saturn Vue Hybrid in the form of its advanced automatic transmission. The engine starts and stops automatically, but not in a “start-stop” system, with the electric power contributing to the acceleration force as well. Like with all the other hybrid models, Saturn Vue Hybrid recharges the electrical battery by regenerating the braking energy and storing it.

If compared to the traditional gas-fueled vehicles, the Saturn Vue Hybrid saves you around 20% of the regular fuel consume. Several types of the Saturn Vue Hybrid have been advertised with an increasing improvement when it comes to acceleration times and standard speed per hour from one model to another. A careful analysis of the technical features of the designs together with the fuel consume and the gains you've got from the hybrid function should be conclusive for any purchase. If you can wait a little further, and you don't need to buy a car right away, you could stay until the new Saturn Vue Hybrid with plug in features is launched in 2009.

Consider Hybrid SUVs

Hybrid SUVs Video

It seems that when we say hybrid SUVs we actually make a mistake, as it sounds like an oxymoron. Why is that? SUVs are luxury vehicles and whoever purchases one probably has enough cash to maintain and fuel it.Even so, with the fuel prices staying so high, we should not be amazed at people’s desire to have more economic vehicles, even though the vehicles under discussion are SUVs. Besides, there is this tendency and policy all over the world to remind of the importance of our energy resources which we have been using wastefully. People's concern should thus go in the direction of finding more efficient hybrid vehicles rather than be interested in speed and horsepower.

These were the premises for the transformation of the power SUV vehicles in to hybrid SUVs. When you decide to buy hybrid SUVs, keep in mind the fact that not all of them are advantageous when it comes to the costs, which means that you have to do some research before picking up among the various hybrid SUVs. To be of help in this matter, analysts at automotive-cost tracking Web site IntelliChoice.com performed a study for CNNMoney.com, in which they analyzed and put side by side projected 5-year ownership costs for specific vehicles that were similar in price and maintenance costs to SUVs. The elements followed in this study were fuel, maintenance, finance costs and depreciation. Analysts wanted to learn whether specific costs climbed up to their expectations. There was also a comparison between regular and hybrid SUVS. According to their findings, hybrid SUVs beat the broad expectations by about $4,000.

Among the hybrid SUVs promoted on the market at present, there are certain vehicles like Acura RD-X, BMW X5 Hybrid, Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Equinox, Dodge Durango, Ford Escape, Lexus RZ 400h, Saturn VUE, to mention just a few of them. This richness of designs indicates that automobile manufacturers are increasingly coping with the global preoccupation about the environment.

How much fuel do you save with hybrid SUVs? No one can give clear cut figures as the calculations are quite extensive and the amount differs from vehicle to vehicle, as well as from driver to driver. What we can say is that hybrid SUVs, and hybrid vehicles in general, though heavier, seem to bear their bigger weight better than conventional vehicles, and this is only if we consider the problem of fuel efficiency and costs. In conclusion, choosing from hybrid SUVs types is a true pleasure; take a driving test and see for yourself. Hybrid SUVs are definitely worth paying for.

Hybrid Honda Accord Keeps Getting Better

Hybrid Honda Accord Video

The present tendency and increasing interest in taking care of the environment, and saving the planet’s energy resources by wasting as little as possible has clear results at least in the field of car making. We are talking about the appearance of a new type of vehicle: the hybrid. Honda is among the numerous car manufacturers that have taken this approach, designing a number of hybrid cars like the Hybrid Honda Accord. The Hybrid Honda Accord was made between 2005 and 2007 by Sayama, Japan and Marysville, Ohio. The newer models of the Hybrid Honda Accord are Honda FCX Clarity and Honda Accord Diesel. The class to which the Hybrid Honda Accord belongs is mid-size. This is actually a 4-door sedan with an FF layout. It has a 3.0L V6 engine with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The other features of the Hybrid Honda Accord are the wheelbase of 107.9 in, the length of 189.5 in (in 2005) and 191.1 in (in 2006 - 07), the width of 71.4 in (in 2005) and 71.7 in (in 2006 – 07), the height of 57.0 in (in 2005) and 57.2 in (in 2006 – 07). Other cars by Honda related to the Hybrid Honda Accord are Honda Accord and Honda Inspire.

The Hybrid Honda Accord is a hybrid design of the North American Honda Accord which was created in model years starting with 2005 through 2007. The Hybrid Honda Accord followed the other hybrid models from Honda: Honda Insight and Honda Civic Hybrid. The third in the line of hybrid Hondas, this Accord model was valued $3,000 more than the EX V6 model Accord and it maintained the same trim and quality levels, except the 2005 model which did not include the power sunroof. The Hybrid Honda Accord stands at the top of the Honda lineup.

This car presents the same displacement as the regular 7th generation Accord V6 power plant; yet the engine of the Hybrid Honda Accord comes from the Honda Odyssey Minivan model of 2005. The Hybrid Honda Accord has the capacity to shut off three out of the six cylinders in order to save fuel, but only under certain conditions. This cylinder stopping technique is called Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) and it was patented by Honda. The engine of the Hybrid Honda Accord features iVTEC technology and also presents a very modern compact transmission. This new transmission was developed as to allow the inclusion of the electric motor inserted between the transmission and the transversely-mounted engine. The fuel economy in this hybrid Honda was initially estimated at 29 mpg (8.1 L/100 km/35mpg imp) in the city and 37 mpg (6.4 L/100 km/44 mpg imp) on the highway. With such features, it's no wonder that the Hybrid Honda Accord won the Canadian Car of the Year Best New Alternative Power Award in 2005.

Auto Repair Yourself

You can do wonder with a automotive repair manual, couple free time with some basic tools and some cash. Most take for granted that only the professionals can do the auto repair, this is not the case. It depends a lot on the model of the car and type of problem, but most auto repair is actually pretty simple to do. Sometimes, you can save hundreds of dollars on fixing your car by taking a simple shortcut. Take for example, I used to have a very old and clunky Voyager that are rusty and bad air condition unit. The coolant keeps leaking out, and the mechanics said that it will cost hundreds to repair it. Instead, I use a clamp from a normal hardware store to cut off the rear air-conditioning unit. It took me less than an hour and less than a dollar to solve the problem!

Nevertheless, for more serious problems, auto repair is definitely a must. I know some people who do automotive engine repair on their own, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you really know what you are doing. Today's cars are more sophisticated and complex than ever, and it takes a quality automotive technician to really diagnose and fix the problem. Don't get me wrong – if you have someone there to help you who knows what they are doing, you can probably get enough help to work your way through. Leave it to the experts if you are even of little unsure of yourself.

One of the best compromises is to let your mechanic diagnose the problem, then go and repair it yourself. The primary danger when it comes to reparing your own auto is that you may not know what is the real problem. Amateur mechanics can jump to conclusions and miss out on the whole issue at hand. This can cause all kinds of problems, and will usually lose you more money than you can gain by not hiring a mechanic. Doing it yourself after the mechanic tells you the problem can still help save lots of money. It doesn't make sense for everyone, but for some people it really does.

Hybrid Trucks

Hybrid Trucks Video

The international concern about the environment is nothing new. Among the efforts made in the preservation of the natural world interest in particular has been awaken in so far as pollution and saving the planet’s energy sources are concerned. Therefore important decisions have been made in this direction and researchers, technicians and car producers have combined efforts to create green vehicles or at least to modify the existing ones to the present green tendencies and policies. A true success was the creation of more varied types of hybrid vehicles. And this is when hybrid trucks come into play. What's the trick about hybrid trucks? Well, as you know, the transportation of goods relies a lot on big vehicles like trucks all over the world. These big vehicles – the hybrid trucks - are huge fuel eaters and the industry of transportation is equally vast.

The awareness about preserving the environment is superior nowadays, and more respect for resources is obvious in their exploitation; hybrid trucks follow exactly this line of thought. It seems that, hybrid trucks represent one of the most popular hybrid items in the vehicle industry. People are eager to get the latest achievements in the hybrid vehicle construction business. Hybrid trucks are not the only ones to get the attention: hybrid electric, fuel flex pickups freight trucks and lots of other models dominate the market too. All in all, full hybrid trucks make the vehicles of the future. Actually, a couple of full hybrid trucks have been launched in 2008, with more to come in 2009 and 2010.

The number of manufacturers involved in the design of hybrid trucks is increasing, and efforts are made in the direction of getting fully electric vehicles. Thus Chevy and GMC have bring some mild versions of hybrid pickups. Truck lovers and users will get satisfaction soon when promises made by Toyota, Dodge, Freightliner, International Truck Engine, Eaton and Kenworth will be materialized in the new hybrid trucks to be launched. A nice achievement in the making of hybrid trucks is the notable reduction in the noise level besides the energy saving features. Hybrid trucks are quieter, cleaner and safer to use: all you need to do is get the idea of an investment and get to work!

The Sporty Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Toyota Highlander hybrid is not the first type of SUV green vehicles produced by Toyota; yet, it brings some superior functions like more seats and a slightly bigger size. This new design aims at getting the attention of a wider range of consumers that have shown interest in eco-cars. The wheelbase of Toyota Highlander hybrid is developed from the Camry chassis with the mention that the more recent design is a few inches longer and wider. Due to the eco-power option, Toyota Highlnader hybrid is also a lot heavier, with a surplus of 263 pounds as compared to the model it has evolved from.

In terms of technical specificity, Toyota Highlander hybrid comes with a 3.3 liter V6 engine that create 270 horsepower when assisted by the electrical motor. The electronic steering mechanism makes parking in crowded parking lots accessible and not at all cumbersome. The main difference between Toyota Highlander hybrid and its gas sister comes from the way the suspension system was designed and manufactured. The gas variety which is considered the more traditional has harder suspensions whereas the eco version complies with the comfort need by the use of the softer suspensions. Every vehicle offers three ways of maximizing fuel economy and they are comprehensively presented in the owner's manual.

Toyota Highlander hybrid users should learn how to take advantage of the specifications on the hybrid system indicator according to the “normal” or “acceleration” modes. You don't have to be an expert to understand what each of the above mean, and it goes without saying that once you hit the acceleration pedal the fuel consume will increase significantly. However, even for superior speed levels there is an advantageous instant consume that you can exploit accordingly. When slowing down, Toyota Highlander hybrid enables the functioning only on the electric mode but on limited distances only.

Last but not least, Toyota Highlander hybrid includes another control function known as the Econ drive mode that works to prevent excessive acceleration and too high fuel consume. The Econ mode has the reputation to work great when you drive in city areas with the hindered traffic, then the fuel economy increase will be significant under the circumstances. As for driving on highways, the Econ mode of Toyota Highlander hybrid no longer proves that viable as you will feel incredibly slowed down. In a nutshell, you need to adapt the functions of this great car to the necessities of the moment in order to be efficient and ecological at the same time.

Hybrid Electric Vehicles Reduce Gas Consumption

Hybrid electric vehicles are automobiles which make use of a combination of conventional propulsion systems and rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS). The manufacturing of such a mixed engine system is justified by the efficiency in terms of fuel consume, in comparison with regular cars. Moreover hybrid electric vehicles incorporate propulsion systems in addition to the electric motors, in order not to be hampered by charging units the way it happens with battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

Nowadays, hybrid electrical vehicles are produced in lines for mass usage, particularly since more and more manufacturers have joined the green line. The reasons for producing hybrid electric vehicles are manifold. Some producers are truly interested in preserving the natural resources, while others show a form of interested caring for the environment as a means of attracting more clients. There are three main ways that allow current hybrid electric vehicles to reduce gas consumtion. There is less wasted energy to start with, this means that during idle or low input your battery is charging and then you will no longer have to worry about the under-usage inefficiency that results from a low function rate of the engine.

The batteries that supply the electric motor get charged when you drive around, thus preventing the input necessities. Some hybrid electric vehicles use the internal combustion engine (ICE) to create electricity by spinning an electrical generator (quite often this is a motor-generator) to directly supply the electric motor that drives the vehicle or to recharge the battery. The majority of hybrid electric cars can now cut out the toxic emissions that are exhaled during the idle or restart modes of the engine. The engines of the hybrid electric vehicles are smaller than those of non-hybrid petroleum fuel vehicles. These engines may function at various speeds, thus bringing more efficiency.

The making of the hybrid electric vehicles started in the late 1990s and the first ones came from Honda (Honda Insight) and Toyota (Toyota Prius). The history of hybrid electric vehicles is marked by the buyer-oriented policy that aimed at making such cars available to anyone. The future of hybrid electric vehicles is definitely bright, and this is the forecast by some car makers who consider hybrid electric vehicles a central segment of the automotive market of the future.

Hybrid Automobiles and Vehicles

Hybrid automobiles are vehicles that uses two or even more distinct sources of power in order to get propelled. Among the power sources for a hybrid car there are gasoline or diesel fuel, on-board or out-board rechargeable energy storage systems (RESS), hydrogen, wind, compressed or liquid natural gas, solar, coal, wood or other solid combustibles, etc. The very concept of hybrid car designates electric vehicles that adapt the usage of an internal combustion engine to that of the electrical batteries.

As mentioned above, there are other hybrid vehicles beside the hybrid car we will mainly deal with here. Just think of mopeds and electric bicycles. These are the simplest forms of hybrid vehicles. The combination between a gas engine or a battery and the physical power of the muscles is definitely superior. The heavy hybrids cover the industrial or supply vehicles such as ships, hydraulic machines, buses, locomotives and so on. Usually, the term hybrid car-vehicle is used to refer to hybrid electric vehicles. This range includes the following types of automotives: AHS2 (Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Silverado, Cadillac Escalade, Saturn Vue), Toyota Prius, Ford Escape Hybrid, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight and many others. A petroleum-electric hybrid car usually gets its power from an internal combustion engine (gasoline or diesel engine) and an electric battery.

The beginnings of the hybrid car date back to the late 1900s when David Arthurs, an electrical engineer from Arkansas, invented the braking regenerative hybrid. Besides the hybrid car as mentioned above, which uses two or more different propulsion devices, there are also vehicles which use distinct sources of energy or input types but only one engine. These are also considered by some people to be similar to the hybrid car.

These two advantages and benefits brought about by the hybrid car are tributary to at least three elements in the design: the combination of gasoline and the electric motors, a battery with plenty of storage capacity and the possibility to re-capture important amounts of energy, which are normally wasted while braking.

Conserve Fuel With a Honda Hybrid Cars

Though launched on the market as early as the 90s, Honda hybrid models started being promoted in the US only from 1999. Honda Insight opened the road, quickly followed by the response of Toyota with the appearance of the Prius. Apparently Honda hybrid cars enjoy high sales rates as well as the Toyota ones even though in the United States Honda is the undisputed leader. Honda Civic hybrid set the sales record in 2004. This would explain why there were more than 100,000 Honda hybrid cars sold between 1999 and 2006. Most of these models went to owners in the United States, next come Japan, Europe and Canada.

In 2004 another Honda hybrid was introduced on the market and it was called Accord. This way people could enjoy the Honda hybrid models more extensively and with a greater variety. It was the American Honda that got the laurels of this success, as the Accord became a market hit. This very model has 255 horse power, it is a V-6 car and it reduces the fuel consume significantly.

The Civic Honda hybrid was released in 2002 and it included an integrated motor assist system that proved magic in terms of lowering fuel consumed. This was the Honda hybrid to become the Car of the Year in North America, and its most praised features consisted not only in the design but also in the handling easiness.

Getting back to the first Honda hybrid, the Insight saved fuel and it stayed in the top of car sales for about six years. It has been estimated that about a tank of 10 gallons can take you somewhere between six and seven hundred miles.

All in all, like any other hybrid model, the Honda hybrid models are also designed according to the green line. They release significantly less emissions, thus contributing to preserving a cleaner urban environment. As a result of reducing pollution and noise, fewer people will have to suffer from various illnesses or respiratory problems caused by exhaust gases. The only issue that Honda hybrid models and other companies designs share is that the batteries are toxic for the environment. Therefore, it is of great importance that we stick to the instructions to in order to recycle these batteries properly.

Save Gas With The Electric Hybrid Car

The electric hybrid car depends on the use of a combined propulsion system that consists of the assisted-function of the traditional engine and an electric battery motor. The purpose of such a vehicle is to save as much gas as possible. The energy storage of the electric hybrid car is superior because more energy can be generated and captured either through the regenerative braking system or through internal combustion and the electrical generator. The energy thus saved gets stored in the battery or is used by the electric motor when in motion. The motor of such a car is reduced in size than that of a regular fuel vehicle and thus, the car is more efficient.

Many car owners vouch for the electric hybrid car along with its producers as it is most efficient especially urban use when there are lots of stops and gos. The engine consumes less thanks to a triple technical system. A first function or element in the system is responsible for the reduction of the waste. A second process captures the breaking kinetic force and sends it to the battery. The third aspect that makes the electric hybrid car more fuel efficient is that it relies on a smaller internal combustion engine while increasing power from the electric motor in compensation.

Another advantage of the electric hybrid car models is noise reduction. The electric motor is quieter than the internal combustion one which works great for both us and the environment. Protests against noise reduction do exist since people claim that the risk of getting hit when crossing the street is higher when you don't hear the car coming.

Finally, the electric hybrid car models help in reducing gas emissions that pollute our air and our cities. The less pollution, the less numerous the cases of respiratory problems. Going green is a major topic of conversation, but the car industry is far from maximizing its production potential in this respect. The electric hybrid car should be making the rules of our industry and should in time be outrun by superior technologies that finish the use of fuel and the release of toxic fumes into our atmosphere. We should begin considering the electric hybrid car as the more recent ancestor of what the near future should bring.

Electric Cars: What You Need to Know

There are so many things to learn when it comes to cars powered by electricity.  When looking at electric cars you will see that there are a number of choose from but one thing is for sure, they all need batteries which can be recharged.  Keep reading for further facts on electric cars.

What people love about electric cars is the fact that the greenhouse gases are much lower and they are very clean compared to other types of automotive.

The question on most people's lips is whether or not you can drive any great distance on the battery.  The good news is that electric cars are more than capable of driving 100 mils on a charge.  However it's important to note that the battery will need to be charged overnight.  They are perfectly fine for city driving and those who don’t have to go long distances on a regular basis.

You are perhaps thinkng that an electric car in incapable of driving at any decent speed. However it might shock you to find out that this myth is very much that, electric cars have been clocked at speeds of over 100 mph.

Of course, there is much more to electric cars than the facts detailed above, you will also want to learn about the prices, availability and their range.  Finding out these facts is easy.  There are so many car manufacturers now that produce cars that can run on both gas and electricitiy, however if you want one that is 100% electric then you will need to do a bit more shopping around.  There are of course other types of fuel that are being used in cars such as biodiesel and bioethanol but there is so much debate about them all and whether or not that are effective.  What we know for sure is that scientists around the world are working very hard to come up with the perfect solution for our motoring and environmental needs.  If you would like further information on environmetally friendly cars then here are a couple of links: Hydrogen Fuel Cells and Ethanol as Fuel.
